Scott Pendlebury will continue his record-breaking run as Collingwood’s captain, having been appointed the position for an eighth consecutive season in 2021.

Carrying on his trademark consistency, the 33-year-old showed no signs of slowing in 2020, placing second in the Copeland Trophy, topping the Brownlow Medal count for Collingwood with 13 votes and receiving the AFLPA’s Best Captain award.

Despite an extraordinary year, Pendlebury finished the season with 316 games under his belt, surpassing both Tony Shaw’s record for most club games (313) and Nathan Buckley’s record for most games as club captain (149) by three matches.

Steele Sidebottom, Taylor Adams and Jeremy Howe will again support Pendlebury as vice-captains, while Darcy Moore will be a new addition to the leadership group alongside Brodie Grundy and Jordan Roughead.

Moore’s elevation to the leadership group comes in his seventh year at the club, following an outstanding 2020 season where he also earned his first All Australian blazer.

Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury said it was a great privilege to lead his teammates for another season.

“It has been an incredible honour to lead the team over the past seven seasons and I am looking forward to the opportunity to represent the club again in 2021,” Pendlebury said.

“There’s no shortage of great leaders in our group, so I consider myself very fortunate to have the support of our vice-captains alongside our wider leadership group on and off the field.

“As a leadership group, we feel very privileged to represent our teammates and help drive the values of the club.”
