Collingwood sharpshooter Alex Fasolo is expected to make his first appearance of the 2013 season in the next fortnight after overcoming a hamstring injury.

The 20-year-old starred in Collingwood's intra-club match at Victoria Park last month but has not been sighted since.

Director of Football Geoff Walsh said that the club took a cautious approach to his recovery but expects to see him back on the field in the coming weeks.

"'Fas' has a hamstring tendon which has just been something we've been a bit cautious with, but there's no issues with it," Walsh told collingwoodfc.com.au.

"He really wanted to play himself last week so he's pretty forward with his training.

"We just took no chances. He'll be tested on the track but we'll see him resume in the next week or two."

Fasolo is one of a handful of Magpies who may be considered for the club's VFL practice match against the Northern Blues on Friday evening. The club must await the all clear from the VFL before the players can be selected.

New wingman Clinton Young was a late withdrawal from last Friday's practice match against Geelong with a sore calf but it is not expected to hinder his preparation for round one.

Meanwhile, Walsh said that Andrew Krakouer, who has not appeared since the opening round of the NAB Cup, will require a few weeks of solid training before he is considered for selection.

"He just needs the work. He missed a few sessions through gastro. He's just not fit enough to play and we just want to get him fit enough to play before we expose him to match rigours."
