Collingwood’s list for the seventh AFLW season is quickly taking shape with six young Pies signing new deals with the club.
Eliza James, Joanna Lin and Alana Porter have recommitted until the end of 2023, whilst Jordyn Allen, Abbi Moloney and Imogen Barnett have extended for another season.
As the AFLW’s Collective Bargaining Agreement currently stands, AFLW players can be signed for a maximum of two years – or until the end of 2023.
James shone in the forward line in her debut campaign, playing all 10 games during the home and away season and booted five goals.
The 18-year-old not only received a NAB Rising Star nomination for a standout performance in round eight, but she was also awarded the club’s Best First Year Player.
Pivotal in one-on-one contests, Porter continues to have a dominant presence in the backline.
Heading into her fourth season as a Magpie, the 21-year-old has only missed one game since her debut for the Pies in round one of the 2020 season (28 games).
2022 was Allen’s best season to date with the 21-year-old averaging 75 per cent disposal efficiency across her 10 games for the season.
Drafted by Collingwood with the fifth overall pick in the 2018 AFLW draft, Allen has since proved to be a versatile player across her 30 games for the club, spending time on the wing and in the backline.
Lin was sidelined for the AFLW season with a shoulder injury but has since returned to the game with the club’s VFLW program.
The 20-year-old had solid impact through on the wing in her debut AFLW season in 2021, running out for nine games and kicking three goals.
Moloney and Barnett, who were drafted in 2020 and 2021 respectively, continue to develop their craft as key members of the side’s forward line.
Collingwood’s Head of Women’s Football Jess Burger said today’s re-signings secure the future of the program.
“We’re thrilled to have these six promising players recommit to the club,” Burger said.
“It is part of our ongoing strategy to invest in youth to secure the future of our program.
“We look forward to watching the development of these players and we’re excited to see what they can bring during this upcoming season.”
Today’s news follows the recent signings of cross-code rookie Emily Smith, Lauren Brazzale and Olivia Barber.
With Chloe Molloy, Ash Brazill, Sabrina Frederick, Tarni Brown, Steph Chiocci, Jordan Membrey, Lauren Butler and Eloise Chaston already retained for the upcoming season, Collingwood’s list is quickly taking shape with more re-signings expected to be announced in the coming days.
