1997 season
Round 1: Collingwood 26.10 (166) def. Port Adelaide 13.9 (87), MCG

Brownlow: 3 Scott Russell, 2 Gavin Brown, 1 Paul Williams

Collingwood hosted Port Adelaide in the Power’s first season as an AFL side at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.  In front of 51,883, the Magpies registered a 79-point victory to take last year’s 11th-placed side to second on the ladder after the opening round.  Paul Williams was sublime with 30 disposals and four goals while Saverio Rocca booted six majors against former Collingwood coach John Cahill.

Round 13: Brisbane 11.22 (88) def. Collingwood 11.7 (73), Gabba, Saturday 28 June
Brownlow: 3 Jarrod Molly, 2 Matthew Clarke, 1 Nathan Buckley

Collingwood precariously held on to eighth spot as it headed north to take on the recently-merged Brisbane Lions.  Things didn’t start well for Tony Shaw’s men as they were unable to produce a score in the opening term.  Captain Nathan Buckley (28 disposals and two goals) thrived on his former home ground and almost got his team over the line in front of 19,560.  The 15-point result proved critical for both sides at the end of the home-and-away season with Brisbane clinching a finals berth and Collingwood missing out by two points.

1995 season
Round 8: Collingwood 20.11 (131) def. Fremantle 14.9 (93), Victoria Park, Saturday 20 May

Brownlow: 3 Paul Williams, 2 Nathan Buckley, 1 Aaron James

Fremantle had the pleasure of taking on Collingwood at its home ground in front of 22,466 members of the Army.  The Magpies were in cruise control for the first half pilling on 14 goals to three until the visitors chipped away in garbage time to finally lose by 38 points.  Saverio Rocca had a field day with six goals while Nathan Buckley and Paul Williams added three each.

For the record
Collingwood has won 14 and lost four matches playing against a side for the first time (including University).

Collingwood holds an impressive interstate record from its last 20 games with the visitors taking the four points in 15 matches.

Gold Coast could field a side of three-former Pies with Josh Fraser (200 CFC games/ 156 goals), Sam Iles (7/ 0) and Danny Stanley (5/ 0).

Gold Coast’s coaching staff includes former Collingwood assistant, head coach Guy McKenna, and now assistant coach Shane O'Bree.

Collingwood has not lost a game at Carrara (5-0) and has a percentage of 156.94% (all five wins came against the Brisbane Bears prior to the interstate side relocating to the Gabba in 1993).

Peter Daicos kicked 13 goals against the Brisbane Bears in 1991 at Carrara.
