Nick Daicos has placed second in the 2024 Brownlow Medal count after polling 38 votes in tonight’s vote count at Crown Palladium.
His 38 votes is the most by any Collingwood player in the 3-2-1 voting system era, eclipsing Dane Swan’s 2011 tally of 34, which saw him win the award.
The tally also betters Daicos’ previous best of 28 votes which saw him place third in 2023.
Daicos polled three votes on seven occasions in Rounds Eight, Nine, 11, 16, 19, 23 and 24.
He polled two votes in Rounds Three, Ten, 12, 18, 21 and 22.
In Rounds Four, Six, 13, 14 and 17 he polled one vote.
In just his third year in the game, the 21-year-old’s impressive efforts have seen him rewarded as a two-time All Australian player (2023, 2024), a 2023 Premiership player, the 2022 AFL Rising Star Award and was also presented with this year’s AFL Coaches’ Association Player of the Year Award.
Daicos ranked fourth in the league in 2024 for disposals (705) and average disposals (30.7) and ranked second in the competition for centre clearances (70).
Daicos also led the way for the Pies, collecting the most contested possessions (319), tackles (107), inside 50s (127) and clearances for the side in 2024.
In Round 23, Daicos produced one of his finest games for the year when Collingwood defeated Melbourne, collecting an impressive 40 disposals and kicking two goals.
He kicked a total of 20 goals this season including a memorable match-winner against Carlton in Round Eight at the MCG.
