Collingwood congratulates defender Lucy Cronin who has been named the Week Four Telstra AFLW Rising Star nominee after an impressive performance against the Western Bulldogs on Sunday.

The 18-year-old had a career-high 20 disposals and seven marks during the Pies third home game this season at Victoria Park. The Pies' first-year player, who also spent 100% of the game on the ground, registered seven intercepts and six rebound 50s.

Drafted at pick nine in the 2023 NAB AFLW Draft, Cronin made her debut in Week One of the 2024 AFLW season opener against the Sydney Swans at North Sydney Oval.

Cronin has played a key role in all five games for the Pies in the season so far, averaging 10 disposals, five intercepts, and three spoils.

Playing junior footy with the Kew Comets, Cronin was called up to play for the Oakleigh Chargers in the Coates Talent League and was part of the 2023 Premiership team.

Collingwood’s General Manager of Women’s Football, Jess Burger, congratulated Cronin on her nomination.

“We are delighted for Lucy and would like to congratulate her on the nomination,” Burger said.

“In only her first AFLW season, Lucy has demonstrated outstanding application within the four walls and has been an exceptional contributor both on and off the field.

“The nomination is a testament to her dedication and hard work since entering the system and truly reflects what it means to be a Collingwood AFLW person.”
