A whirlwind for Sidebottom
Steele Sidebottom trained with his new teammates on Monday 1 December
Collingwood’s first overall pick in the 2008 AFL National Draft was 17 year old, Steele Sidebottom.
In his first training with his new teammates, Sidebottom impressed the coaching staff with his third place finish during the two kilometre time trial.
“Yeah it was awesome I suppose,” Sidebottom told CTV after his first training session with his new club.
“Obviously there was a lot of talent out there and it was good to come up against it and get to know all the boys.”
Sidebottom has had little time to adjust to his new life at Collingwood and admits the experience has been overwhelming.
“It’s been a whirlwind. Not knowing and then ending up at Collingwood. You couldn’t ask for a much better place to end up.”
Sidebottom gained media attention after his 10 goal haul in the TAC Cup grand final but was quick to state he plays his best football in the midfield.
“I probably played most of my junior footy in the midfield. I will be trying to bring a bit of run. I will be doing everything I can on the field to get Collingwood where ever they need to be.”
After only one day Sidebottom has already received banter from his new teammates regarding his unusual name.
“Even today I have heard a few. Blue scope and hard ass and stuff like that. They have already started.”
