Collingwood vice-captain and 2010 Norm Smith Medallist Scott Pendlebury wants to be a one-club player.
The 23-year-old midfield star, who was the fifth overall pick in the 2005 draft and has already played 102 games, said that his management will wait until the AFL’s new Collective Bargaining Agreement is finalised before committing to a new deal, but his priority is to stay with the Magpies.
“Obviously I want to get the best deal I can, but I am very happy at Collingwood and I'd like to be a one-club player - that's probably my priority,” Pendlebury told the Herald Sun.
"If the wages go up, I'd like a slice of that in my contract, so I'll just wait for that."
Pendlebury explained that he wouldn’t necessarily wait until the end of the season.
"I have started to talk to Collingwood. My manager is doing his thing and trying to work out what is best for me and my future.
"I'd like to get it out of the way as soon as possible and concentrate on this year.”
Pendlebury’s resume after only five years in the system is incredibly impressive.
In addition to his best-on-ground performance in last year’s grand final replay, he was also runner-up in the club’s Copeland trophy voting for the second time, and earned his first All Australian guernsey in 2010.
"I'd like to say I'll be at Collingwood after this year and I'm pretty confident I will be, it's just a matter of working out the best deal,” Pendlebury added.
"All the boys are there who I want to play with and I want do it again."
On Thursday the Herald Sun announced that Pendelbury will be joining its team of columnists for the 2011 season. Follow Scott on Twitter - @SP_10.
