Having successfully completed a series of time trials, the players continued to refine their ball skills at Gosch’s Paddock.
All 10 new recruits were back on deck after completing their 2012 Induction Camp with the AFL Players Association.
Big men Jackson Paine, Jarrod Witts and Lachlan Smith all moved well, and small forward Jamie Elliott looked adept around the big sticks during match practice.
The ball movement was pinpoint despite damp conditions. Heath Shaw, Dale Thomas and Steele Sidebottom were the standouts with their foot skills, and the likes of Alex Fasolo and Tom Young moved well. Both will be looking to take the next step to becoming senior regulars this season.
The players also donned the protective padding during a series of high-intensity tackling drills. Skipper Nick Maxwell and his defensive teammate Harry O’Brien led the way with their voice and direction amid heavy traffic. Irish duo Paul Cribbin and Caolan Mooney both showed cool heads when in possession, and appear to be making good progress.
While the players continued to sweat it out at Gosch’s Paddock, the injured Ben Reid was toiling away in the gym at the Westpac Centre. Magpies fans will be pleased to hear that Reid is hopeful of participating in the NAB Cup series once he overcomes a shoulder injury.
New boy Jamie Elliott limbers up before training gets under way.
From East Malvern to Collingwood - Jackson Paine maintains a Koutoufides-like grip on the ball.
Tom Young looks ready to evade any player that crosses his path, while Nathan Brown comes to grips with the made-for-tackling-drills padding.
Midfield coach Robert Harvey runs his group through the next stage of their Friday morning. Note Darren Jolly's new crew cut and Dane Swan's latest artwork on his calf.
It's nothing but 100% effort for Jarrod Witts during the pre-season. Sharrod Wellingham looks like he trains with a similar philosophy.
