Collingwood forward Jordan De Goey suffered a mid-foot sprain during training on Friday.
Fears of a serious injury were allayed by subsequent scans which cleared the 22-year-old of damage to the left ankle joint and ligaments.
De Goey required assistance to hobble from Collingwood’s training ground at the Holden Centre, but was eventually able to put weight through his leg.
He will have his ankle in a moon boot for the next seven days and be kept from weight-bearing activity during that time.
“After that, we should be able to determine how and when Jordy returns to the program,” said Collingwood general manager of football, Geoff Walsh.
“He has escaped serious damage to the joint, which is the first thing.
“We’ll let it settle and make the appropriate calls, in terms of rehab and a timeline, once he is back on the foot.”
