Collingwood has made two changes to its team ahead of Saturday night’s Round One clash against Port Adelaide at the MCG.
As announced on Wednesday, new recruit Dan Houston will make his Collingwood debut, setting up a showdown against his former team. The dual All-Australian played 168 games for the Power after he was selected at pick 45 in the 2016 AFL Rookie Draft.
Midfielder Lachie Sullivan has also earned selection into Craig McRae’s team. The 27-year-old will add to the 10 games he chalked up in 2024 after being added to the Pies’ list as a pre-season supplemental signing.
Forward Will Hoskin-Elliott has been ruled out of the clash after he received a direct knee to his back during the Pies’ Opening Round match. The 225-gamer will be assessed next week to determine availability for Round Two.
Midfielder Ed Allan has been omitted from the team and will be an emergency alongside defender Billy Frampton and forward Ash Johnson.
The tactical substitute will be selected from the bench and will be named 60 minutes before the first bounce.
Veterans Scott Pendlebury and Steele Sidebottom will play in their 307th match as teammates, equalling the competition all-time record currently held by Adelaide’s Andrew McLeod and Tyson Edwards.
Houston, 27, joined the Pies in a three-way trade with the Power and the Gold Coast SUNS on the second last day of the 2024 Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period.
Houston was one of the athletes featured in Collingwood's pre-season documentary series, The Grind, where he discussed the rationale behind his move to the Pies.
“Playing for the biggest Club in the land in Melbourne where I’m from is a dream come true," Houston said in the series.
"I’m looking forward to playing for the Pies in 2025."
