In his 11th season at the club, Tarkyn Lockyer put in another workman-like effort contributing in every match (25) while averaging 19.5 disposals through the midfield and up forward.

Adding experience to a young Magpie list, Lockyer enjoyed a strong start to the year averaging 23 disposals and nine marks from his first six matches.

Lockyer, who will be named on the veteran list for 2010, proved handy in front of goal kicking four goals in round six and had two returns of three goals in rounds 11 and 16.

He finished the season leading the side in marks (169), third in goals (32), fourth in inside 50s (80) and finished in seventh place in the Copeland Trophy.

Lockyer’s leadership will continue to prove invaluable to a side which is relying on a substantial amount of youth in 2010.

Mark Neeld: He played every game of the season which, for a small forward, is no mean feat. He contributed for us on the score sheet but also when we didn't have the football. He had a very good year.

2009 highlights

Round six v North Melbourne:  Deemed best on ground by the umpires by polling three Brownlow votes, Lockyer kicked four goals to equal his career-high.  The utility racked up the majority of his possessions (23) in the midfield and proved elusive up forward kicking two of his goals on the run.
