Collingwood marked its inaugural season in the new Victorian Wheelchair Football League with premiership success.

Led by captain-coach Brendan Stroud, Collingwood was a comprehensive victor over Richmond in the season decider, recording a 60-point victory at the Boroondara Sports Complex in early September.

A key to that victory was Richard Amon, who scored three goals.

Amon capped off his year by winning the team’s first best-and-fairest award during Friday night’s Copeland Trophy Dinner.

Amon is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Disability Sports and Recreation. Upon joining the organisation via his previous post as the Sport and Leisure manager at the City of Casey, he said he was "passionate about making sport and recreation equitable for all Victorians with disability".

He was named on the interchange bench in the Victorian Wheelchair Football League’s Team of the Year, and finished equal third in the competition’s best-and-fairest count.

Defender Orfeo Cecconato was also recognised during the Copeland Trophy for his performance on Grand Final day, when he was named best afield in the Magpies’ 60-point win.

The 2018 VWFL season ran across 10 rounds, with Collingwood one of five AFL teams to field a side in the new competition.
