"I am really looking forward to it and it’s something I have zoned in on.  I have done a few coaching courses and I am thankful the Gold Coast has given me an opportunity."

O'Bree will reunite with former assistant and now head coach of the Suns, Guy McKenna.  McKenna spent five seasons under Mick Malthouse working as Collingwood's midfield coach and overseeing O'Bree's development.?

"I have been coached by Mick Malthouse, basically for my whole life, and he has taught me so much as a player.  Hopefully I can impart my wisdom on the Gold Coast.”

McKenna said he had worked closely with O’Bree in his previous role and was looking forward to working with him again.

“O’Bree was a leader and on field mentor of a young Collingwood midfield which has developed and flourished over the past two years,” he said.

“Fresh out of the game after a fantastic playing career, his knowledge and understanding of the midfield roles makes him an ideal fit as a midfield coach. We are very pleased he has accepted the role and will join our club to work with our young talented list,” McKenna added.?

O'Bree joins McKenna and assistant coaches Ken Hinkley, Shaun Hart and Dean Solomon from mid October.
