Collingwood forward Jamie Elliott will have surgery today on the fibula in his right leg which was injured in the second quarter of the match against Carlton at the MCG last night.
Scans have confirmed that Elliott suffered a fracture of his fibula as he returned to ground from a marking attempt. He will be having further scans to determine whether he also suffered damage to his right ankle.
“At this stage it is likely that Jamie will need an extended period on the sidelines,” Collingwood GM of Football, Graham Wright said.
“We’ll know more once the operation and further scans have been completed but the unfortunate expectation is that he will miss two or three months of football from here. He’ll do all the right things to be back as soon as possible and we look forward to having him back in the second half of the season.”
Elliott left last night’s match after taking four marks and kicking two first quarter goals. The 28 year-old has kicked 178 goals in his 125-game career in black and white.
