Saturday night's match against the West Coast Eagles wasn't one Collingwood fans will look back on fondly.

After a bright start, the Magpies were swamped by the home side in the third quarter. The Eagles banged on five goals to two and drove a wedge between the two teams that could not be repaired by the final siren. The end result: a 49-point win to West Coast.

Dane Swan marked his return to senior football with 26 possessions at Patersons Stadium.

Cameron Wood had a tough gig in only his second match since early June, winning 12 hitouts against the might of Nic Naitanui and Dean Cox.

Alex Fasolo, a West Australian native, loved playing on his old home deck, kicking a team-high three goals.

Football's not just about freakish goals and high flying marks.

Dale Thomas puts everything into this inside 50.

Sharrod Wellingham strikes a pose at half forward.

Ben Sinclair began the night as the substitute but was in the wars almost immediately after being activated, wearing a heavy knock to the head. He left the field quickly but returned later to pick up four disposals.

Just out of reach. It was that kind of night.

Beau Waters never leaves anything to chance.

The highlight of the night was the return of Ben Johnson. One of Collingwood's most important players of the last decade.

Heath Shaw tried to conjure some rebound off the back flank.

Time to wonder...
