This week's 'Stat Attack' features the forward role of Dayne Beams, Luke Ball's history against the Brisbane Lions and a look ahead to the Jonathan Brown and Brendan Fevola combination.

Player focus: Dayne Beams - A new role?
The second-year player found a niche up forward against Geelong in the round nine loss booting a career-high four goals from six shots.

From his 17 possessions on Friday night, nine were acquired in the forward 50 arc (a team high) while eight were from between the arcs.

A snap shot of his performances this season prior to round nine shows a clear change of role.  Beams averaged 22% of his disposals in the forward 50 arc from rounds 2-8 (didn’t play round one) compared to 53% against Geelong.

The 20-year-old was involved in only three centre bounces against the Cats, significantly lower than his 2010 average of 9.6.

A look ahead
Much of the discussion revolving around the Brisbane Lions in 2010 has centred on the Jonathan Brown and Brendan Fevola combination.  Both players have played nine matches this year with Fevola kicking 30 majors and Brown slotting 28.

The former Blue has been the focal point of the Lions’ attack and has commanded 82 inside 50 entries or 28% of the side’s total inside 50s.  Brown, on the other hand, has been the target inside 50 53 times (18% of the time).

Brown has made the most of his opportunities marking 17% of the 53 entries while managing a score 44% of the time.  Fevola’s numbers are not as efficient only hitting the scoreboard 24% of the time when a teammate delivers it to him from outside the arc.

Random but still interesting
Luke Ball enjoys playing against Brisbane’s midfield averaging 24 disposals, six tackles and four marks in seven matches.

The 26-year-old registered a career-high 26 kicks in 2005 (round 22) and finished the day with 31 disposals, eight marks and two goals.
