Blair dons the Big V
Collingwood rookie Jarryd Blair was named in Victoria's best in the 54-point win over Western Australia on Saturday afternoon.
With his VFL teammates enjoying a weekend away from the field, Collingwood rookie Jarryd Blair was working hard in Western Australia playing for the state of Victoria.
Blair, along with teammate Kris Pendlebury (VFL-listed player), was selected to represent Victoria in the state representative clash against WA at Medibank Stadium on Saturday afternoon.??
The hard-nut midfielder showcased his ball winning ability in the Vic’s thumping 54-point win and was named in the side’s best.
“It was a good trip and a great honour,” Blair told CTV at the Westpac Centre on Tuesday.
“To play alongside some of the best at that level was a great experience.”??
The Vics were led by legendary coach Gerard FitzGerald who is a dual premiership coach at North Ballarat and the fourth longest serving coach in the VFA/VFL history (over 230 games).??
“It was different to play under a non-Collingwood coaching staff. Gerard FitzGerald is a highly regarded coach and it was good to play under him.”
Blair started the match on the five-man bench but quickly worked into the game and finished with 28 possessions including 12 in the second term.
“I had a bit of run on the wing because there is a ton of space. I was able to get a few cheap kicks.”
The 20-year-old proved he could adapt to Fitzgerald's coaching style serving more as a wingman for Victoria as opposed to the inside job he performs each week in the black and white stripes.
“It was a bit different. I suppose I run through the middle at Collingwood but for the state side it was fifty percent in the middle and fifty percent on the wing.
“I enjoyed the change.”
Blair will reunite with his VFL teammates this Saturday afternoon when the team travels to the Gold Coast to take on the future AFL side.??
