Collingwood’s Dale Thomas was deemed second and third best on ground by both head coaches in Friday night’s loss to Geelong.

Thomas, who had 26 disposals, five tackles and one goal, polled seven total votes in this year’s AFLCA Champion Player of the Year competition.

It’s the second time this year the 23-year-old has polled votes after receiving eight votes in the round four win over Richmond.

Simon Buckley polled his first vote for the year with a 26 disposal and eight-mark performance along with Heath Shaw (27 disposals, eight marks and eight tackles).

Midfielder Dane Swan is Collingwood’s highest ranked Magpie, polling 27 votes from three matches and now sits 16 votes behind Essendon’s Jobe Watson in first place.

Past winners of the prestigious award include Dane Swan (2010), Gary Ablett Jnr (2007-09), Simon Goodwin and Adam Goodes (joint winners in 2006), Barry Hall (2005) and Warren Tredrea (2004).
