This week’s 'Stat Attack' looks at inside 50s, kick ins and the debut of Steele Sidebottom.
Inside 50s
Collingwood registered 35 inside 50s on Monday night, one less than St Kilda. It’s interesting to note that Collingwood entered its attacking 50 from the centre corridor 17 times, five more than St Kilda. The Magpies went in 19 times from the right (St Kilda 14) and ten times from the left (St Kilda 21).
The Saints were dominant once inside their forward 50 scoring 59% of the time which ranked third highest for the round. The Magpies failed to convert on Monday night scoring 33% of the time, the lowest in the competition for the round.
Stoppages
Collingwood allowed St Kilda to score 38% (scored 8.3) of the time from clearances, the highest against any opponent this season.
Kick ins
The Magpies had eight kick ins for the night, seven resulting to direct teammates. From their eight kick ins, two resulted in an unbroken play into the forward 50.
Steele Sidebottom
The 18-year-old, who was a late inclusion for the injured Leon Davis, showed he has what it takes to play at the elite level finishing the night with 22 possessions, four marks and three tackles. Statistics made more impressive considering he only played 60% of the game and was rotated on eight occasions.
Sidebottom used the ball by hand with 100% effectiveness and kicked it with 67% effectiveness.
He possessed the ball 73% of the time in the midfield, 18% up forward and 9% in defence. From his 22 possessions, six were contested and three resulted in an inside 50.
