The finishing touches to Collingwood’s list ahead of next week’s AFL national draft on the Gold Coast are almost complete.

New deals for forwards Brent Macaffer and Andrew Krakouer have been signed. Both have agreed to one year contracts.

The pair were cut down by serious knee injuries before the 2012 season began but became inspirational figures as they worked towards and completed comebacks late in the campaign. Both got back to play VFL football and Krakouer crowned his return with four senior matches and a four goal performance in a qualifying final against Hawthorn.

Macaffer, 24, has played 30 matches for the Magpies since making his debut in 2009. He was a member of the 2010 premiership side and seemingly on the rise but injuries have limited him to just four appearances since then. His attempt to return this year has him in perfect shape to start pre-season training next week, when Collingwood players of seven or fewer seasons return.

Krakouer, 29, has played 27 matches and kicked 40 goals for Collingwood in his two seasons at the Westpac Centre, for career totals of 129 matches and 142 goals. Like Macaffer, he will be able to commence full training.

“We’re looking for good pre-seasons and solid seasons from both players, who did so well to overcome their injuries this year,” Collingwood director of football, Geoff Walsh, said.

“They play similar positions but they’re different sorts of players and we know they can add something to the mix.”
