TRAVIS Cloke says he won't rush his contract negotiations despite intensifying speculation surrounding his future.

On the eve of his 150th AFL game, the Collingwood forward's contract, which finishes at the end of the season, remains a hot topic.

Vice-captain Scott Pendlebury's four-year recommitment to Collingwood this week ensured Cloke was quizzed about his future again on Thursday after training.

Cloke said while Pendlebury's long-term deal was "great for the confidence of the group", it wouldn't affect his own negotiations.

"It's not a certainty it's going to be put off until the end of the year," Cloke said.

"If it gets done beforehand it gets done, but personally I just want to play football.

"If Walshy [football director Geoff Walsh] and Bucks come to an agreement with my management, then great, it's done beforehand and we'll sign it, but I'm here to play football and that's what I'm going to do and focus on that."

Cloke said he was ultimately "not fussed" about when his contract was sorted out.

He also said he wasn't concerned that he would continue to be linked to Greater Western Sydney until he put pen to paper.

"Contracts are one issue and I'm contracted until the end of October, so I'm realistic it doesn't have to get done until then. But if it gets done before then, great."

Coach Nathan Buckley, who tried to deflect persistent questioning about Cloke's contract to Friday night's game against Hawthorn, said the Pies were prepared for more headlines about their out of contract players.

Ben Reid, Steele Sidebottom, Heath Shaw and Sharrod Wellingham are among those whose deals end this season.

He said the club had been confident Pendlebury, who has ambitions to succeed Nick Maxwell as captain, would stay.

"When you go back 12 months ago, there was some scuttlebutt and rumour about him wanting to sign a 12-month extension, and when you take things in perspective now looking back, I really do think he wanted to set himself the task of proving that he was the best player at the club," Buckley said.

"Dane Swan was at that time, and (with Pendlebury) winning the Copeland Trophy last year he's been able to achieve that.

"It's a good vindication for Pendles and we were very confident he was going to sign all along. It's great for the club."

Cloke will kick off his eighth AFL season with the milestone match after a brilliant 2011 in which he kicked 69 goals and took the most contested marks (95) since the statistic was first recorded in 1998.

He also earned his first All Australian guernsey.

Cloke said while he hadn't set specific goals for 2012, he was keen to take his game to another level again.

"There's numerous areas: from my marking, my goal kicking, my general knowledge of the whole game plan, leadership," he said.

"There's not one area I need to work on and it's not something that's going to take one week or two weeks; I'm going to be working on it all year round."
