Magpies lend a hand
On Tuesday 21 April Collingwood allocated funding to seven community groups and programs in the Caroline Springs area.
Over $40,000 was presented to program coordinators who provide fantastic services to kids, mums, community programs and sports in the area surrounding “The Club” in Caroline Springs.
The funding is part of an allocation of over $100,000 each year that the Collingwood Football Club provide to worthy groups and programs that service the Caroline Springs community.
The ongoing funding is part of the commitment from “The Club” Caroline Springs which is owned by the Collingwood Football Club to provide financial support to the immediate community that they are so much a part of.
Collingwood’s chief executive, Gary Pert, was on hand to donate the money to the community groups and programs.
“The sporting clubs and community programs that Collingwood give financial support to are a critical part of the energy and culture of the Caroline Springs community. I always enjoy hearing how the money is directly spent and how it improves the lifestyles of individuals in the shire,” Pert said.
“Collingwood has a 100 year history of community involvement and contribution and we will continue to provide funding and support to individuals, charities and sporting organisations that we are aligned to.”
One of the programs to receive a cheque was Melton Street Surfer group, designed to provide children entertainment on a Friday night.
“The program is designed to give children an opportunity to participate in safe activities on a Friday night,” Karen Wright a committee member said on the night.
“This money will go towards purchasing a new generator for the bus which drives around on Friday night to local shopping areas, and basically where young kids gather, and provides entertainment for them.
“The children are able to play video games and hangout in a safe environment.
“The money received tonight will help continue this program.”
