Collingwood has recorded a massive increase in its membership tally of nearly 20 per cent, for the second consecutive year.

The club’s total membership now stands at 71,271 - a record for any club in AFL history and an increase of 13,863 from 2010.

Collingwood President Eddie McGuire praised members for their commitment to the club.

“I would like to thank every one of the 71,271 Collingwood members for their outstanding show of support.

“This membership tally is a fantastic achievement and every one of our members should be proud to be a part of this milestone.”

The total of AFL club members has passed 650,000 for the first time, with the Pies more than 15,000 members ahead of Hawthorn, the club with the next highest membership.

AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou today congratulated clubs and thanked members for their support.

“On behalf of the AFL, I wish to thank those supporters who continue to make the commitment to join an AFL club. Their passion for our game is the lifeblood of our sport across the country,” Mr Demetriou said.
