Collingwood skipper Scott Pendlebury has surged to third on the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year leader board after he was adjudged best on ground in the Magpies’ 34-point win over Carlton last Friday night.

Pendlebury’s class and poise was once again on display as he collected 26 disposals, including three clearances and three inside 50s, as Collingwood recorded its fourth win in succession.

Awarded eight votes from competing coaches Nathan Buckley and Mick Malthouse, Pendlebury now moves within one of second placed Joel Selwood, while Gold Coast’s Gary Ablett remains the runaway leader, 11 clear of the Geelong captain.

Fellow midfielder Dayne Beams continued his recent rich vein of form to enter the top ten after receiving seven votes for his performance against the Blues.

Though Beams’ 21 disposals was shy of his prolific best, the 24-year offered a demonstration as to why he is considered amongst the leading goal kicking on-ballers in the game, equalling his career best with four majors.

Emerging defender Tom Langdon, recipient of the AFL’s Rising Star nomination for round seven and Richard Pratt Cup Medallist, was also awarded seven votes for his efforts, his 23 disposals and eight marks including three intercept grabs and four rebound 50s.

Small forward Jamie Elliott continued his appetite for scoreboard destruction against the Blues with three goals and six votes, while Sam Dwyer’s performance resulted in him earning a single vote despite exiting the contest late after sustaining a knee strain.
