Collingwood star Dane Swan has lost his bid to retain his five year good record at the AFL Tribunal but will still be free to line up against the West Coast Eagles on Saturday.

Swan received a reprimand and 60 demerit points after the Tribunal upheld the Match Review Panel's finding that he recklessly tripped Demon Sam Blease with an outstretched right leg in the third quarter of the Queen's Birthday game.

The 28-year-old could have accepted a reprimand and 45 demerit points if he had entered an early plea to the MRP's charge.

But given his offence carried fewer than 100 demerit points, Swan remains eligible to win his second consecutive Brownlow Medal.
