After experiencing a troubled 2014 season with muscle strains, Collingwood has elected to send Ben Reid to Germany to be assessed and treated by a world-leading doctor.
Reid, 25, strained his left calf in the middle of December and it was then decided upon to send Reid to Germany to be assessed and treated.
Collingwood Director of Football, Neil Balme, said that the purpose of the trip was two-fold.
“We have sent Ben over with a club physician, Lachlan Fooks, in order to determine why Ben has experienced several muscle strains.
“While they are not significant, we are concerned that there could be underlying problems.
“Ben went over on Sunday and received his first round of treatment on Monday. He will return the following Sunday.
“We won’t have any timelines or results on Ben’s health until he returns to the club.
“The treatment has been approved by the AFL medicos.”
Reid will be treated by Doctor Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt who is the club doctor for Bayern Munich.
Balme is familiar with the clinic in Munich after seeking treatment for retired Geelong defender Max Rooke in 2007.
