The place of sport science in elite sport has remained shrouded in mystery for several years, but this week’s episode of The Club goes behind closed doors and examines the role it plays in Collingwood’s on-field success.

The Club follows Collingwood’s sport scientists at the team’s main training session and tracks their progress right up until Saturday’s clash with Greater Western Sydney.

We find out how the club tracks its players via the use of GPS devices and learn about the method behind different players’ training loads in the lead up to a match.

Midfielder Sharrod Wellingham joins the studio ahead of his return from a three-match suspension while The Club follows Wellingham and teammate Andrew Krakouer as they head out with the Salvation Army to help keep Melbourne’s homeless warm during another icy winter.

Make sure you’re watching The Club from 9:30pm tonight on FOX FOOTY (channel 504).
