Lynden Dunn was traded to Collingwood along with draft selection No. 51 in exchange for selection No. 47.

Just let that sink in for a moment!

Dunn has proven to be one of Collingwood’s finest acquisitions in recent years. Since debuting for the club in round six of 2017, he played 31 games without a miss, shutting down some of the league’s best full backs and providing wonderful leadership for his younger teammates.

Sadly, while in the midst of his rich vein of form, Dunn’s campaign came to a grinding halt when he injured his knee against Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium in round 15.

Scans confirmed the 31-year-old would need a knee reconstruction, ending his season and his dreams of playing in his first finals series 14 years after he was first drafted by Melbourne.

But far from throwing in the towel, Dunn instead continued to throw everything he had back into his team.

From assisting the coaches on match day to fist-bumping every teammate before they walked out onto the ground before each game, or simply putting everything into his rehabilitation in the gym and on the training track, Dunn’s approach to adversity was inspiring and helped drive his teammates into the club’s first Grand Final in seven years.

In winning the Darren Millane Perpetual Memorial Trophy as Collingwood’s Best Clubman for 2018, Dunn joins the likes of Tyson Goldsack, Nick Maxwell, Brent Macaffer, Paul Licuria and Anthony Rocca – all current clubmates in some capacity in 2018 – on the list of Collingwood’s finest servants.

Few have been more deserving.
