Adam Treloar says he won’t be fit enough to return to action during the remainder of Collingwood’s home and away campaign.
But the star midfielder, who suffered a series hamstring injury against Carlton in late June, remains hopeful he might be right to play in September, providing the Pies make the finals.
“I reckon I’d say I’m where I thought I’d be,” Treloar told Fox Footy on Wednesday evening.
“Post the surgery, which was seven weeks ago today, they said [it would be] about an eight- to 12-week recovery.
“Me being really optimistic and thinking I was going to get back for the last [home and away] game, I think that’s off the cards.”
Treloar has been performing strongly on the training track over the past couple of weeks, but he has had to keep his sprint work in check.
“The only thing I can’t do is the really high-end speed stuff … because there’s not enough strength in that left hamstring,” he said.
“I run three or four times a week, and each session that goes by I get quicker and quicker.
“I’m hoping that all goes well with the boys and we keep winning and playing good footy and I can get back, potentially, for the first final.
“But I’ve just got to play it day by day.”
