Form
The Power opened their 2018 campaign in style, winning their first three matches. Their good form continued through the first two-thirds of the season, and they were sitting pretty in the top four with an 11-4 record after defeating St Kilda at the Adelaide Oval in round 16.
But Ken Hinkley's men have stumbled in recent weeks, losing four of their past five games, including three losses by fewer than 10 points.
The Power were beaten in extraordinary circumstances last weekend, with Eagles big man Jeremy McGovern winning the game for his side with a goal after the final siren.
Port heads into Saturday's clash with Collingwood in eighth place on the ladder with its finals chances hanging in the balance.
What they're saying
Port Adelaide assistant coach Michael Voss spoke to the media earlier in the week and addressed the club's need to find different avenues in attack in the wake of Charlie Dixon's season-ending leg injury.
"It means that we're forced to go mobile," Voss said. "But I see no reason why there's not personnel in there to be able to get the job done for us.
"It's about completing our plays and finishing. We are getting some really good build-up through the middle of the ground but we're not finishing it off.
"And that has varied a little throughout the year in terms of what that actually is, whether it's the final kick inside 50 or whether it's just finishing in front of goal.
"But that is something that hasn't been consistent enough this year so we have got to keep working at that ... it's clearly not at the level we need it to be."
Players to watch
Tom Jonas was among the three Port players to feature in the coaches' votes after the heartbreaking loss to West Coast last weekend.
Jonas racked up a team-high 30 disposals and 13 marks down back, although he was left wishing he could have prevented Jeremy McGovern from taking his match-winning mark.

Match report excerpt: A desperate Port Adelaide has survived a stirring Collingwood fightback to keep its top-four hopes alive.
The Magpies booted four straight goals in the third term to narrow the deficit to eight points, before the Power responded on their way to a 14.14 (98) to 10.11 (71) victory at Adelaide Oval on Sunday night.
The 27-point win leaves the Power (12-8) sixth on the ladder, trailing Sydney on percentage and within one game of fourth-placed Richmond.
"It's the win we needed to have, no doubt about that, in a competition that is getting very tight," Power coach Ken Hinkley said.
"That puts us on 12 wins for the year and gives us a good opportunity in the coming few weeks."
The only concern for the Power will be Ollie Wines' late bump on Tom Langdon that could be looked at by the Match Review Panel.
For the Magpies (8-1-11), they are now officially out of finals calculations after their first loss in more than a month.
