Collingwood’s Scott Pendlebury has surged into second place in the AFLCA’s Champion Player of the Year award following a unanimous best on ground effort against Adelaide at the MCG last weekend.

Pendlebury produced arguably the most dominant performance of his career, amassing a career high 42 disposals on route to guiding Collingwood to a 27 point triumph over the plucky Crows.

Dominating at stoppages, Pendlebury collected 16 contested possessions and a match leading eight clearances, as his poise and vision in came to the fore.

While Pendlebury was undoubtedly impressive throughout the contest though, it was his astounding final term display which drew the bulk of the plaudits, highlighted by a pair of 50 metre goals, the first taken with ease on his left, the second in mirrored fashion on his right boot.

His steadying influence allayed fears of a last quarter collapse, as Collingwood secured its 10th win of the season to continue applying pressure upon the competition’s top four.

Dane Swan meanwhile entered the AFLCA top ten for the first time this season after receiving five votes for his 31 possession, two goal performance, which was punctuated by his trademark, pack bursting run.

Having endured an equivocal start to the season, Swan has soared into form in recent times, and it is certainly no surprise that his surge has coincided with a series of ever improving performances by the Magpies.

Luke Ball celebrated his 200th game with three votes after once again demonstrating his prowess at stoppages, while Travis Cloke’s two goals and 10 marks, including three contested was enough for him to also draw recognition, and three votes.

In his 100th game, Steele Sidebottom was the last of the Magpies to garner votes, receiving two as he revelled is relatively newfound role across the half back line, picking up 28 touches.
