Collingwood’s VFL finals hopes are almost surely dashed after it lost a tight match to Casey on Sunday.
Slippery conditions at Victoria Park hampered both sides’ ability to move the ball cleanly, which resulted in a low-scoring affair.
The Magpies went scoreless in the second and third terms which proved too large an obstacle to overcome, despite them lifting their efficiency inside 50 in the final quarter.
Alex Woodward was prolific in the middle for the Pies, leading all players with 32 disposals despite sending a significant portion of the first half off the field due to a head injury.
Lachlan Tardew was rock solid down back for the Pies with 27 touches, while John Noble supplied some run and carry with his 23 touches.
Sunday’s loss means the Pies would need other results to fall their way if they are to feature in September.
The Pies have a bye in round 20 and wins to either Box Hill or Casey would rule Collingwood out of finals contention.
