When Adam Treloar takes on the GWS Giants this weekend, it will be a case of returning to where his AFL journey began.

Before becoming a Magpie favourite, Treloar played 79 games for the expansion team between 2012 and 2015.

He arrived in Blacktown as a 17-year-old before quickly playing his way to three top five finishes in the Giants’ Best and Fairest.

Collingwood Media has this week followed Treloar’s every move as the 23-year-old prepares to take on his former side.

From doing extra training during his lunch break on Monday to his various media commitments, our cameras have captured just how the midfielder is preparing for the trip north.

Part one of the video-blog series showcases the lead-up to what has been a highly anticipated fixture.

It includes an insight from Treloar on some interaction with his former teammates during the week.

“I texted Shane Mumford the other day,” he said.

“It was his birthday yesterday and Mummy replied and said ‘thanks mate, can’t wait to beat you up this weekend’.

“It’s going to be exciting. I can’t wait for it.”

The tongue-in-cheek reply from Mumford came just a day after Treloar forecast on his vodcast Sports Galore what it would be like to face his former teammates.

He said he had already experienced a teaser in Collingwood’s round 15 victory over Carlton.

“There were four players out there who used to play for the Giants for Carlton,” he told co-host Mark Allen on Monday.

“We had a bit of banter out there and that was them playing for Carlton. I can’t wait to see what it’s going to be like playing against actual Giants players.”

As far as Treloar’s attitude towards the game itself, the midfielder is trying to keep his preparation in line with a normal weekly routine.

Whatever he’s been doing, it’s working.

After 14 rounds he’s averaged a career-high 30.1 disposals per game and has been one of Collingwood’s most productive midfielders.

“I’ve just been taking it as a normal week,” Treloar said.

“Obviously the extra media attention is a bit different, but in terms of my recovery, in terms of my training… it’s all the same. Nothing changes.

“It’s a big game. But it’s just another day.”
