The Collingwood Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Rodney Eade to the position of Football and Coaching Strategist.

Eade joins the Magpies having been the senior coach of the Western Bulldogs from 2005-11 (162 games; 88 wins, 72 losses, 2 draws). Prior to that he coached Sydney from 1996-2002 (152 games; 81 wins, 69 losses, 2 draws).

Eade’s playing career spanned 15 seasons with Hawthorn (229 games from 1976-87) and Brisbane (30 games from 1988-90), and included four premierships with the Hawks.

Earlier this year the AFL announced that Eade will take over from Mick Malthouse as coach of the Australian International Rules side to play Ireland in Australia in October/November.

“I’m thrilled to be given the opportunity to work at Collingwood, and be part of what is clearly one of the most professional and well resourced football programs in the AFL,” Eade said.

“I’m looking forward to joining Nathan and his team and doing everything possible to ensure Collingwood remains in a position to challenge for the 2012 premiership.”

Eade’s appointment follows last week’s announcement that former Adelaide player and assistant coach Ben Hart will be joining the Magpies as defensive coach.

Eade will report to Director of Football Geoff Walsh, and strengthens the football department leadership team comprising Nathan Buckley (Senior Coach), Derek Hine (National Recruiting Manager) and David Buttifant (Director of Sports Science).

The Collingwood football department is this week reviewing the 2011 season.
Nobody from the football department, including Eade, will be available for further comment until after the Copeland Trophy dinner on Friday night, at which time further information regarding the football department structure will be communicated.
