Maxwell ruled out round one
Collingwood skipper Nick Maxwell has been ruled out for round one after meeting with the specialist on Monday
Maxwell, 27, was on the receiving end of a heavy bump from West Coast’s Andrew Embley in the NAB Cup semi-final two weeks ago and sustained severe internal bleeding.
After a two-week stay at home, resting and not moving from his bed, Maxwell received word from the specialist that he can resume light training this week and can engage in conduct the following week.
“I have to get the conditioning right after being out for two weeks,” the captain told Collingwoodfc.com.au before the 2011 Season Launch commenced at the Crown Palladium on Monday night.
“Internally I am all clear now, it’s all healed, as far as he (the specialist) is concerned. He said you can’t play this week but from his perspective anytime after this weekend.
“But I have to take into consideration my conditioning,” Maxwell added.
“It will be the Collingwood doctors and conditioning staff will make a decision over the next two, three, four weeks whatever it is.”
The club has listed Maxwell as 1-2 weeks away from returning to the field, a time the 140-game player believes is dependent on how much fitness he has lost during his time in recovery.
“Two, three, four, one of those weeks I will playing. I don’t know how much you lose in two weeks, but I literally haven’t done anything in that time. I haven’t lifted a weight, which is another aspect I have to take into it.
“At least I know internally I am well.
“I can start exercising this week, as of tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. No physical contact until at least next week.”
