Collingwood star midfield Scott Pendlebury, who will miss this weekend’s match with a fractured leg, has spoken to Collingwoodfc.com.au for the first time since his injury.

The 21-year-old sustained the injury in the opening minutes of last week’s match against St Kilda which will force him to watch the game from the coaches’ box on Saturday night.

The injury occurred when Pendlebury was tackled by Saint Leigh Montagna on the member’s side of the ground.

“I was in a lot of pain immediately when it occurred,” Pendlebury told Collingwoodfc.com.au on Friday.

“I knew I was in pain but I wasn’t too sure if it was a deep corky or if I had done proper damage.”

The midfielder was able to come back on for two quarters before the doctors ordered him off the ground.

“It was pretty painful when I went back on and at the half the doctors were able to assess that it was a fracture.

“I went it on Monday morning to get a small plate with six screws inserted in my leg to help secure the injury.

“Due to the nature of the injury, I have been able to maintain some degree of physical activity in the gym.  It’s been keeping me sane.

“It still hasn’t hit me that I won’t be out there with the boys on Saturday night but I am now just focusing my concentration on helping the boys off the field.”

Pendlebury will play a role off the field during the game by assisting his midfield teammates and coaching staff.

“I have already spoken to a couple of the boys about the game but I will become more involved on Saturday night.   If they need me to watch over some aspect of the game I can do that.”

The timeline for Pendlebury’s injury remains unclear but the midfielder believes he is a chance to return this season.

“I am definitely still a chance to return in the finals.  Every day is a day in the right direction.”
