COLLINGWOOD captain Nick Maxwell has declared himself fit for selection for Friday night's blockbuster against Carlton at the MCG.

The 29-year-old missed the opening two rounds with a right ankle injury sustained in the final round of the NAB Cup.

He insisted he was right to face the Blues, but the club's conditioning staff would have the final call on whether he needed time in the VFL before being considered for senior selection.

Maxwell said the Pies had enjoyed a light week on track, having played Richmond only last Saturday.

"You put less work in on the track because we're coming off a six-day break," Maxwell told SEN.

"Particularly early in the season, you try and manage your players and get them right for the weekend.

"It's going to be a huge game and they should be favourites; they've been sensational and we're going to have to make sure we're on our A-game."

Maxwell rolled his ankle at Visy Park on March 16 in the second quarter of the Magpies' 33-point win over St Kilda.

He left the field in significant pain, unable to bear weight on the foot.

He wore a moon boot to the club's season launch, and it was later revealed he iced the ankle every hour in the lead up to round one in a bid to face Hawthorn on March 30.

Sharrod Wellingham and Ben Johnson are also available this week - the former after serving a two-match club suspension and the latter following two games in the VFL after a hamstring injury.

Alan Didak is expected to play in the VFL this weekend while Chris Tarrant has a calf strain that will keep him out for the next month.

The Pies will train again on Thursday morning.
