Collingwood will honour the player who finishes third in the club's best-and-fairest count on Friday night with the J.J. Joyce Trophy.

John Joyce, one of the club’s founding fathers, former Britannia player and administrator, played only one game for Collingwood but was a central figure in the establishment of the club in 1892, during the years of the Depression.

A man who will forever be known as a “man’s man” in and around the club, Joyce was a main component in the creation and ongoing prosperity of the Collingwood Football Club.

PAST WINNERS
The J.J. Joyce Trophy has been awarded to third place in the Collingwood best-and-fairest since 1950, where George Hams was the first recipient of the award.

Originally, second and third places were named in honour of Cecil Hearne. This continued until 1940.

There was a brief intermission during the 1940s, when no award was given due to the Second World War.

Then, in 1948, it reappeared as the R.T. Rush Trophy before being given its current name the following year.

More recently, the J.J. Joyce Trophy was not awarded in 2004 and 2006, given two players had tied for second place.
