1. Tarni Brown is a star on the rise

The future is bright.

Tarni Brown’s status as a rising star of the game has been made official, with the 18-year-old receiving the nod for Round 6.

Brown solidified her NAB AFLW Rising Star nomination with 15 disposals and four marks in a breakout performance.

Brown was instrumental in keeping the scoreboard ticking over and ultimately securing the win, with four score involvements and a goal of her own.

2. Efficiency is key

We’ve seen sides come undone through wasteful ball use and in the first half against the Dogs, the Pies simply couldn’t convert.

While recording plenty of forward 50 entries, Collingwood had just seven behinds to show for their efforts at the major break.

In the second half, the Pies returned to the form which sees them ranked first for disposal efficiency in the league, recording seven goals (and just two behinds) to run out 36-point victors.

3. You can’t keep Chloe Molloy quiet for long

You can’t hold a star down.

Eleanor Brown may have had the better of Chloe Molloy in the opening half but it wasn’t long before Molloy found the goals.

Two majors in the second half ensured that Molloy maintained her equal-first place on the goal-kicking table, extending her streak of consecutive matches with a goal to an impressive nine.

4. There are unsung heroes all over the ground

While much is made of Collingwood’s stars, perhaps the reason the Pies have been so dominant is their depth across the ground.

Lauren Butler (eight disposals and six tackles) was able to hold Isabel Huntington goalless, Joanna Lin (averaging 70 per cent disposal efficiency) hasn’t missed a beat since debuting in Round 2 and Mikala Cann (14 disposals and five marks) is only getting better each week.

With Abbi Moloney contributing two goals on debut, it’s becoming evident that Collingwood are able to call on a wealth of talent to step up and play their role when they need to.

5. The Pies have the ability to respond

It hasn’t been often that a side has had the Pies on the ropes this season, but pleasingly for the Magpie Army, the team has found a way to respond.

After a first half arm-wrestle, Collingwood were able to find another gear to accelerate away from the Dogs.

Led by co-captain Brianna Davey (28 disposals and one goal) and Brittany Bonnici (22 disposals and five tackles), Collingwood were able to notch their sixth straight win of the season and maintain their unbeaten record for the 2021.
