Is Dane Swan football's Benjamin Button?
The 31-year-old is aging in reverse.
At least you'd think so if you had been watching his past month of football.
Swan backed up his 41 disposals against Carlton with another 39 against Sydney on Friday night in a performance that saw him nominated by Channel Seven's commentary team as man most likely to collect the three Brownlow votes at the end of the night.
Had he broken the 40-disposal barrier, it would have marked the first time since rounds 16-17 of the 2012 season that the triple Copeland Trophy winner had done so. It's a feat few players over the age of 30 could ever dream of.
In total, Swan won 39 disposals (21 kicks and 18 handballs), 16 of which were contested. He won six clearances, took the ball inside 50 four times and laid five tackles in a performance that would not have looked out of place during his Brownlow winning year of 2011.
He was well supported by his skipper, Scott Pendlebury, who won 31 disposals and laid five tackles despite 'lowering his colours' in the words of his coach post-match.
Pendlebury was one of three Magpies to end the night on 31 touches, ranking alongside Taylor Adams and Steele Sidebottom.
Pleasingly, Brodie Grundy took the honours in the ruck duals, winning 28 hitouts despite contesting solo against Kurt Tippett (27) and Mike Pyke (14). He received back up from Darcy Moore, who won nine taps to go with his goal and career-high 15 disposals and seven marks.
