Three of Collingwood’s best young players have agreed to new contracts.

Josh Daicos, Darcy Moore and Mark Keane left Collingwood’s High Performance Centre on the Sunshine Coast earlier this week with new deals in place. All have signed for two more seasons.

The father-sons, Moore and Daicos, enjoyed breakout 2020 seasons for different reasons; the established Moore moved into the company of the game’s very best defenders while Daicos took hold of a senior side role as he blossomed into one of the competition’s best young wingmen.

Moore, 24, won his first All-Australian blazer, claimed the J F McHale Trophy for his fourth place finish in the Copeland Trophy count and played all but one match in 2020 for a career total of 89 games across six seasons.

Daicos, 21, played more matches in 2020 – 18 of a possible 19 – than he had managed in his previous three seasons combined (17). The 21 year-old’s high level consistency and polish  saw him finish sixth in the Copeland count.

Keane, 20, is a highly regarded key defensive prospect. The 194cm Irishman made his debut in 2020 against Fremantle at Optus Stadium in round nine. He will be heading into his third season in 2021 poised to play regular senior football.

Collingwood list manager, Ned Guy, described Daicos, Moore and Keane as important to the club’s ambition to improve on a sixth place finish in 2021.

“Clearly, given the ages of all three players, there is significant upside,” Guy said.

“Even for someone like Darcy, who is now and All-Australian, his peak years are ahead and with Josh and Mark they have so much scope to develop. We expect all of them to be important to Collingwood for many years to come.”
