In a new feature to collingwoodfc.com.au, “Stat Attack” will feature an in-depth look into Collingwood statistics provided by Champion Data.

This week's "Stat Attack" focuses on Collingwood's ball usage in Sunday's match with regards to efficient disposal.

Disposal efficiency

On Sunday afternoon Collingwood used the ball with 70.6% efficiency (14th in the competition, Sydney ranked first with 80.4%).  The Magpies had 11 players use the ball with 69.9% efficiency or less in the loss, the same number they had in round seven’s loss to the Saints.  Their highest number of players under the 70% was in the ANZAC Day match (12).

Carlton used the ball with 74.7% efficiency but only had seven players use the ball with 69.9% or less.

Alan Toovey had 17 possessions and used the ball with 88.2% efficiency and Heath Shaw used the ball with 84% efficiency (25 possessions) to lead the club (Simon Prestigiacomo was 100% efficient with his disposal, seven for the match).

Most accurate with the ball across the season

Scott Pendlebury is averaging a staggering 82.13% disposal efficiency and leads the competition in total disposals (235).  His accuracy becomes even more impressive when stacked up against Jimmy Bartel (231/75.76%), Chris Judd (228/71.05%) and Gary Ablett (214/77.1%).

In the first nine rounds, Collingwood averages 75% disposal efficiency, the league average is 75.5% (Adelaide first in competition with 77.9%).

Since 2000, the Magpies have finished the season below the league average eight times (including this season).

It’s interesting to note here when the disposal average was at its lowest in 2002-03, Collingwood appeared in two grand finals.
