Luke Ball and Ben Reid welcomed Scott Loxley to Collingwood this week, one month into his ‘Storming Australia for Monash Children’s Hospital’ walk. Loxley will walk solo around Australia while dressed in a Star Wars ‘stormtrooper’ costume to raise money for the new Monash Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.

Since beginning his walk on November 2, Loxley has already walked around the entire perimeter of Tasmania in full costume.

“I had an amazing time in Tasmania, and was constantly stopping for photos and to chat with people on the side of the road,” he said.

“Most of them couldn’t believe that I was walking solo and in the costume the whole time, so seeing their faces light up was definitely a highlight.”

A member of international charitable Star Wars costuming organisation, The 501st Legion, Scott is walking with no support crew and pushing all his supplies in a cart. During his time in Tasmania, Scott encountered cold weather, hot weather, wet weather, and of course a flat tyre on his supply cart.

“Thankfully a local bike shop in Moonah kindly helped me out with a new tyre. Everyone was amazingly generous.”

As an avid Collingwood supporter, Loxley thought it fitting to kick of his Melbourne leg from the Westpac Centre before heading west towards Adelaide and then taking on the Nullarbor.

Storming Australia is expected to take Scott nearly 18 months, concluding in March 2015.

As a huge Collingwood fan, Loxley said he was glad he will only miss one AFL season.

“I know I’ll be on the road for all of the 2014 AFL Season, but if all goes to plan I’ll be back in Melbourne in 2015 to cheer on the mighty Pies!”

Luke Ball said he admired Loxley for what he was attempting and encouraged Collingwood supporters to throw their support behind the cause.

“It’s a pretty amazing thing that Scott is doing and it would be great if all our supporters could get behind him and donate to this fantastic cause”.
