In a new feature on Collingwoodfc.com.au, supporters will recap a player's weekly schedule in 'A week in the life of'.

To kick things off, Brent Macaffer fills us in on his last seven days which focuses on the rehabilitation of his injured knee.

Friday
I usually come in Thursday and do upper body work. Come in and feel fresh after having a massage the day before. My body was feeling good and ready to go for training. I did my normal program of running and leg weights as part of my rehab.

In the evening I run personal training sessions with some mates, and bring them into the gym and put them through a training session, which is more of a modified type of what I do myself. Usually after dinner we’ll train for an hour and a half with some running and weights. I then headed home and watch a bit of the footy. I love AFL Dream Team. It’s a pretty full on competition that I’m in so it’s pretty competitive. Ryan O’Keefe and Paul Chapman both starred for me.

I also saw my surgeon Julian Feller. Myself and Andrew Krakouer went and saw him to touch base. We do that every four to five weeks. He gave us a big tick and said he’s really happy with how we’re progressing. He said that we’re spot on and on track for full contact training in three weeks.

Saturday
I don’t go to watch the games as an injured player. I came in to the Westpac Centre to do a big weight session with David Buttifant (Director of Sport Science) and the rest of the rehab boys. We came in four hours before the game and did a session that’s a full on hour of upper body weights. I was absolutely exhausted. Most boys are usually stuffed and can’t walk out by the end of it. I ended up going home and sitting on the couch. It takes me until Monday morning to recover. For the next two days your whole arms are sore in places you never knew could be sore. I don’t know how he does it for a bloke who is twice the age of most of us.

Sunday
A day off. My sleep in day. I put my phone on silent so any messages or calls don’t wake me up. I try to sleep in until past 10 o’clock. My dog Benji comes in trying to wake me up. I spend day with him and my girlfriend at home. I try to do something with them because during the week I don’t see much of them. In the arvo, I watch a few games of footy and hope my Dream Team gets over the line and then start preparing for the week. I have a big pasta meal and then get into bed early and I’m ready to go again. Monday is usually a big day.

Monday
I came in at 9.30 with the physios and run through the session I’ve got to do. All the boys are training on the ground but I’m on the outskirts doing agility work and kicking around the ground so it’s pretty solid in getting that fitness base back quickly as possible. Then I came in and did leg weights for an hour and a half.

Tuesday
Today was about upper body weights. It was more of a flush out session to get rid of all the soreness from the previous day and to get ready for Wednesday. There’s a bit of rehab and icing of the knee, ice baths and a massage. I got home and just stayed off the leg and rested up to prepare for Wednesday, which is one of the main days of my week.

Wednesday
I had some time trials to do at Albert Park. I ran 5x300m with our physio Chris Howley, which went for 20-25 minutes. I was absolutely cooked after that. When I drove back here I was still hurting. Then had some breakfast (a couple of pieces of toast), got massage and then headed outside and didn’t go through as much as usual but did some agility work and had a bit of a kick. Again it was a flush out session to get rid of the soreness. Then I went back inside to do leg weights for hour. Lunch was a barbeque and seafood, which is a rarity so all the boys were pretty pumped. That night I went out for dinner with a couple of mates and had Vietnamese. It was great to catch up with them.

Thursday
Started the day with a massage at 11.30 and some physio work for my knee to assess it again to make sure it’s all good and that I had pulled up as planned. I also headed out to the shops to get the Internet sorted out.  Once I hooked up Wifi I could start playing basketball on the Play Station against ‘Pendles’. I’ve played him a few times and we’re continuing our rivalry. I thrashed him by about 40 points last time but he reckons he’s improved and has me covered! How can he have me covered if he’s never beaten me?!
