Collingwood’s injured stars will play in practice matches as part of their recovery process to get match fit and prepared for the finals campaign.

Collingwood senior coach Mick Malthouse has informed members that a number of injured Magpies could see time on Gosch’s Paddock in a modified game format to help their bid to get back on field.

Malthouse answered the question submitted via Twitter from Nath Croughan using the hashtag #askmick.

What’s the plan moving forward with the VFL season complete? - @nathcroughan

“We propose to have in-house practice matches which a lot of clubs would be doing this time of year, that are out of the (VFL) finals.

“We hope to get some good time into players such as Heath Shaw, Sharrod Wellingham, Chris Dawes and Nick Maxwell.  When they are all available to come back we will throw them through the practice matches.

“As much as it’s not as the real thing, it will still give us a good indicator of where they are at physically.   They are still bashing bodies, still having to take marks under pressure, and run and kick and so forth.

“That VFL side has produced five first-game players this year.

“We can’t discount the fact that the VFL is there for a good reason.

“There is going to be a couple of times when we play poorly but still produce players.”

The VFL Magpies’ season is complete with Tarkyn Lockyer’s men enjoying four wins from 18 matches.

'Mick's Message' is a weekly address by the senior coach to all Collingwood members sent out on Monday.
