Selection: Pies name young side
Collingwood has recalled two of its most consistent youngsters for Saturday's clash with the Hawks.
The versatile youngsters have earned their opportunity courtesy of several strong performances at VFL level in which they have regularly been among Collingwood’s highest possession winners.
They replace half back flankers Marty Clarke and Simon Buckley who have both been named alongside young Irishman Caolan Mooney as emergencies for the top-four encounter.
A smooth mover with eye-catching evasive skills, Seedsman has played five senior games in his second season at the Westpac Centre, debuting in round one against Hawthorn. He has been named involved as a substitute in four of his five matches, but showed what he is capable of in his most recent senior outing when he gathered 17 possessions during the trip to the Gabba to play the Brisbane Lions in round seven.
Young has been tracking along a similar path, getting a taste of senior action in the three games between rounds 10-13 after debuting at the tail end of 2011.
In the VFL, the 20-year-old continues to have a greater say in the midfield with each passing week. The NSW product has notched 30, 25 and 32 disposals in his past three outings since losing his place in the seniors and has been named as an emergency for eight of the 11 games he hasn’t played.
Seedsman, too, has been banging his hand red raw on the door of the match committee. He has been named as an emergency on six occasions including recent matches against Carlton and Geelong.
Of the omissions, Clarke returns to the VFL three weeks after his last appearance at that level when he gathered over 30 disposals. He began Saturday night’s match against Geelong as a substitute and was activated at half time, going on to gather nine disposals.
Ironically, Clarke replaced fellow omission Simon Buckley who didn’t return after suffering a migraine. The 25-year-old had only four disposals before leaving the field.
Meanwhile, Hawthorn has named an unchanged line-up ahead of Saturday's blockbuster. Superstar forward Lance Franklin will miss with a hamstring injury and captain Luke Hodge remains on the sidelines with a knee complaint.
Saturday's match marks the annual 'Bring a Blanket Day', an appeal that encourages all supporters to donate new or clean blankets, or money, towards a blanket to the Salvation Army at the MCG on Saturday.
If you aren't at the match fans can also support Bring a Blanket Day throughout the week by donating online. Find out more about how to donate here.
