Collingwood rookie list player Paul Cribbin is set to miss four weeks of football as a result of injuries he sustained when assaulted in Melbourne’s CBD in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Cribbin suffered facial injuries and damage to his teeth when he was attacked at around 2am on March 11. The 19-year-old Irishman, who was with fellow Collingwood rookie-list player Caolan Mooney, advised the club of the incident.

After being located by police, he was transported by paramedics to St Vincent's Hospital where he remained overnight for assessment and was discharged on Monday after undergoing dental surgery.

Cribbin met with Collingwood’s player leadership group on Monday afternoon to discuss the incident.

While Cribbin, who was under the influence of alcohol, didn’t break any rules and was a victim in the attack, Collingwood director of football Geoff Walsh emphasised the need for players to take care and be responsible.

“The message from the leadership group was clear and concise to Paul,” said Walsh.

“You like to see the players stay away from environments where there is potential danger, and sometimes players have to make decisions that put the brakes on their social lives.”

Apart from any follow-up police action, the matter is concluded.
