The second cricket Test hasn't begun and the Melbourne Cup Carnival isn't long gone, but it was all business for the Collingwood players when they returned for work on Wednesday morning.

All players with seven years experience or less hit the training track for the first time since the loss to Sydney in the Preliminary Final on 21 September and weren't spared from hard work.

The group began the session with several touch drills in which they sharpened their skills and blew out some cobwebs after several weeks away from the Sherrin.

Some players were treated to a rigorous boxing session along the boundary line while others worked in smaller groups with the assistant and development coaches.

Later in the session, the players were sent on a series of punishing laps of Gosch's Paddock by Director of Sports Science David Buttifant and his fitness team.

The players appeared in good shape with youngster Michael Hartley and usual suspects Scott Pendlebury, Steele Sidebottom and Marty Clarke all shining when the football boots were swapped for runners.

Ex-Blue Jordan Russell stepped out in the black and white for the first time since crossing from Princes Park during the trade period. He was joined by former AIS basketballer Ben Richmond as the two new faces out on the oval.

Collingwood photographer and member Steve Hamilton made the trip to Gosch's Paddock and filed the first training photo gallery of the pre-season.
