Reid after quick return
Ben Reid says his latest quad injury is minor, with the injured Magpie hopeful of missing just two weeks
COLLINGWOOD defender Ben Reid has backed himself to overcome a quad injury and return in time for the Pies' Queen's Birthday clash against Melbourne on June 11.
Reid, 23, re-injured his leg on Friday night against Geelong with just 10 minutes remaining in the last quarter.
He was poised to kick the ball when he felt "a bit of a twang".
Despite having been troubled by quad injuries in the past, Reid believes he can recover in time to get one game in ahead of Collingwood's bye, which falls after the Melbourne contest.
"You've got to be careful with these sorts of things. I've had them in the past and I know how to look after them, which is a plus," Reid told The Club on Wednesday night.
"I'll probably only miss two weeks and hopefully be back the round before the bye."
The Pies will front the in-form Adelaide on Saturday night at AAMI Stadium without three key backs - Nathan Brown, Chris Tarrant and Reid.
Their absence means 13-game player Lachlan Keeffe will enter the game as the tallest defender and will likely get the job on Adelaide power forward Kurt Tippett.
Reid backed his housemate to counteract the dangerous Crow, who will be without his forward line co-pilot, the suspended Taylor Walker.
"He's got the height to go with him, I think they're both 200-plus centimetres," Reid said.
"'Keeffey' played a little bit on him in the pre-season so that should give him a little bit of confidence, and I'm sure he's ready for it and I'm pretty confident he'll be able to do a good job.
"I think he's been fantastic [this year]. The three of us haven't been there this year, we've all had our injuries, and Keeffey's been the main stayer for the entire year.
"I think he's done a fantastic job and I'm sure he's ready for this battle this week."
Reid also said Jamie Elliot and Tom Young were playing solid football at VFL level and would be able to stand up if they were given a senior opportunity in the wake of more injuries.
